Gatchina

Sender: Libsem
Text on card: Gatchina. Priory on the shore of the Black Lake, 1797-99, architect Nicholai Lvov.

Gatchina is a small Russian town, the former residence of the Russian Emperors with a unique palace-and-park mix. Four Tsars consider Gatchina their family home. Priory Palace sits on the banks of the Black Lake at the Eastern edge of the Gatchina Park, surrounded by hills and forest. It is a mixture of pseudo-Gothic and Old Russian church architecture, with simple undecorated facades, white walls and bright red roofs, crowned by a slender octagonal tower.
