Hansel & Gretel

Sender: Tries
"Hansel & Gretel" by Bernhard Oberdieck

This is a lovely illustration of Hansel & Gretel, a well-known German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Bernhard Oberdieck the illustrator, is specialised in illustrating children's books. But I must say...this fairy-tale gave me nightmares when I was a little girl! The cannibal witch scared me silly even if she was pushed into her oven in the end! :P

"Nibble, nibble, gnaw,
Who is nibbling at my little house? "

The children answered,"The wind, the wind,
The heaven-born wind,"

Brrr! Let's hug!

Sender: Lilitatka

A hug between friends, in the cold of winter.

I love the details of this artwork (don't know the artist) with the red-breasted robins, the snowfall, the girl with mail on her sled and in her pocket, the post-box, the hugging friends and their pawprints/footprints in the snow. Awww....

Yuri Gagarin

Sender: Dasha
Yuri Gagarin

Russian pilot/cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (9 March 1934 – 27 March 1968) became the first human in space, making an orbital flight in his Vostok 1 spacecraft. I remember learning about him in History lessons at school!

Open Sesame!!

A black and white photo showing great details of a stone wall & a wooden door that the cat is trying to push open! Maybe it has to meow "Open Sesame!" first! :D

Cats in Egypt

Sender: Roksana11

In ancient Egypt, cats were valued for their mysterious and superstitious qualities. Maybe this art card is trying to depict the importance of cats in Egypt. But the one with a camera is probably a cat tourist! :)

I wish!

Sender: Pinza
'J' is for a Japanese kitten with a Japanese quotation:-
"I wish that tomorrow will be a nice day!"

I love this cute adorable tiny kitten! The back of Pinza's postcard is lovely too, with stickers of cherry blossoms, a Japanese comb, a cat arching its back... TQ Pinza!

Waiting

Sender: Olenenka
Waiting

Olenenka wants to show me a typical Ukrainian mailbox and I am delighted with her choice.
What do you think this girl is waiting for? Is she also a postcrosser, waiting for her official cards or cards from the forum? Or is she waiting for news from her guy?

Sharing a song I love by The Carpenters:-
( Stop!) Oh yes, wait a minute Mr Postman!
( Wait ) Wait Mr Postman!
(*) Please Mr Postman look and see
( Oh yeah ) If there's a letter in your bag for me
( Please, Please, Mr Postman ) Why's it takin' such a long time
( Oh yeah ) For me to hear from that boy of mine

There must be some word today
From my boyfriend so far away
Please Mr Postman look and see
If there's a letter, a letter for me.

I've been standin' here waitin' Mr Postman
So-o-o patiently
For just a card or just a letter
Sayin' he's returning'home to me.
Repeat (*)

So many days you passed me by
See the tears standin' in my eyes.
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter.
Repeat (*)

Why don't you check it and see
One more time for me
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute...
( Mr Postman )
Mr Postman look and see
( C'mon deliver the letter, the sooner the better )

Mr Postman.....

Sword-Lion

Sender: Yi-Ting Yeh
The people of Anping used to decorate their house with the totem of Sword-Lion for protection against evil spirits. Nowadays it is a symbol of Anping.

Allegedly, the tradition of Sword-Lions dates back to the Ching Dynasty. Troops garrisoned in Anping in the settlement’s earliest days would carve images of a lion on their shields to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. They would then place their swords and shields at the doorway when they returned home, and this practice eventually evolved into the local custom of hanging a sword lion emblem above the doorway to ward off potential intruders.

Yi-Ting's postcard depicts two sword-lions, but one of them has a different kind of sword!

Washington Ferries

Sender: Otoko
Washington Ferries

Washington State Ferries is the largest ferry system in the United States, serving eight counties within Washington and the Province of British Columbia in Canada.

I love travelling by ferries in our own state of Penang, it is just a short crossing to Penang Island where people can bask in the sun and enjoy the fresh breeze and scenery. Very relaxing, if you are not in a hurry. But I wonder how long the crossing is, for Washington ferries. The ferries look huge, like a mini-cruise..

Camping Tolosa

Sender: Nordbaer
'C' is for 'Camping'!
Aerial view of Les Rotes. Tolosa Camping.

Les Rotes is one of the beaches on Spain's Costa Blanca coast, perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. Nordbaer wrote that he used to be a camper, but not anymore. Me? I've never been camping out in the open where overnight stays have to be done  :)
