Tallinn, Estonia
Sender: Ella
Ella lives in Tallinn and writes that this is a view of Tallinn Old Town, showing the Fat Margaret's Tower and Oleviste Church.
Fat Margaret's Tower (Paks Margareeta) was built in the early 16th century to defend the city from the seaward side of town. The origins of Fat Margaret's name are a mystery. Some theories insist it was named for one of its larger cannons, while others hint at a cook called Margaret who once worked here. Now it's home to the Estonian Maritime Museum.
St. Olaf’s Church or St. Olav's Church (Oleviste) was built sometime in the 13th Century. Although the Church is widely acknowledged to be named after the Norwegian King Olav II Haraldsson, another legend has it that it was named after an architect who promised to build it for free - if only the townspeople could guess his name. The architect was just fixing the cross on the steeple, when someone shouted out that it was Olev. The architect realised that he had forfeited his fee, slipped and fell to his death. Subsequently the Church took its Estonian name 'Oleviste'.
Tallinn's Old Town is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Estonian Misty Summer Morning
Sender: Erzukene
Summer morning in Estonia
Erzukene is so lucky to live close to nature, and by the river. Imagine waking up to beautiful misty mornings such as this and with pretty wildflowers greeting you..
Some of the most magical times of the day are early morning when the world is waking up..
The cartoon in the middle stamp, I read, is a cartoon character from an Estonian animated film, "Lotte from Gadgetville"

Estonian landscape
Sender: ellgee
1) Viru Bog, Lahemaa
2) Cliff-lined Coast of Estonia
1) Lahemaa translates roughly as "Land of Bays". Lahemaa National Park is one of the main tourism attractions in Estonia and Viru Bog is part of this National Park. One can actually follow the Viru Bog Nature Trail, a 3.5 kilometer nature trail, via a wooden walkway built right on top of the bog.
2) I read that since human activity is concentrated in the bigger Estonian towns and cities, much of the country's natural environment remains untouched. The northern coast of Estonia is a beautiful, towering cliff face (in some places up to 56 metres above sea level!). Hikers can get to the impressive limestone walls from both above and below, as there are set trails winding their way all along the cliffs, and from which they can absorb stunning views over the sea and along the coastline.
A treat for nature lovers!
