Grave Of The Fireflies

Sender: Iris

A Studio Ghibli postcard, "Grave of the Fireflies" (Hotaru No Haka)

Set at the time of World War II, this animated movie is about the fates of two orphaned children who become casualties of war. I recommend you to watch it, if you haven't already. It is so moving, so beautiful, so sad, made me cry buckets..

Tung Oil Tree Blossom

Sender: Yen-Liang Shen
Tung Oil Tree Blossom

A deciduous shade tree native to China. Tung oil has been used for paints and waterproof coatings. I have heard of the cherry blossom festival (in Japan) but not of the tung blossom festival but I read that they do have the latter in some Taiwanese districts.

This card is a shaped card (I think it looks like the Gotochi cards people collect from Japan).

Fireworks at Taipei 101

Sender: Wei Ying

Text on card: Festivals excel at providing a main theme for marketing a city. With fireworks and the New Year's countdown - and now with Taipei 101, the world's tallest building - the New Year's celebration in Taipei attracts the world's notice year after year.

(Taipei 101 has been outranked by now. I think currently the world's tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.)

Taipei City

Sender: Lisa
Taipei City At Night

Taipei 101 can clearly be seen towering over every building. The 101-floor, 508-meter high skyscraper is designed to resemble bamboo rising from the earth, a plant recognized in Asian cultures for its fast growth and flexibility.

Xiaoyoukeng

Sender: RachelDing
Xiaoyoukeng, Yangmingshan National Park, Taiwan

I read that the biggest attraction here is the sulfur pit of volcanic fumaroles and steam gushing out of the mountainside can probably be seen. Ooh, I'd like to see that!

Living On The Water

Sender: Awi Walis

A batik card by Hu Te Hsin, a Malaysian artist. Postcrossing sometimes throws little gems like this one. I would never have received a local artist's card from an urban Taiwanese indigene otherwise! :)
