I am not sure where this cafe actually is. Google seems to point to a cafe of the same name in Hong Kong.

Pears Soap, the best soap!

Sender: Shinta
I was happy to get this Pears soap old advert poster card from Shinta in neighbouring Indonesia. We share a common language (albeit with some differences), so it is fun to see a non-English ad that I can understand its meaning rightaway :)

Pears soap was famous for its marketing and its "Miss Pears" competition. I still remember using Pears transparent soap when I was much younger!

A plethora of cards

Sender: Lauren

Lauren sent me 5 cards in an envelope with a message for me to choose which one I like best and to do what I like with the rest/them all. Truly, it was hard for me to choose (postcardholic me!). They all had different themes and were equally interesting... But since the butterfly was red in colour and stood out because of that, I chose that as the one pictured on my official Postcrossing (received cards) wall. TQ Lauren, for your generous gifts...the stickers, the stamps, and your written letter. I only wish I can return you the favour! :)

What are pop tarts pictured above? I think I have never eaten them!
"Snowwhite" Collage 20 x 30cm - Ka Van Haasteren
Try to decipher what this collage art card convey...mysterious!
Text on card: Works Progress Administration (WPA)
Artists: Doug Leen - Brian Maebius
Between 1935 and 1943 the WPA's Federal Art Project printed over two million posters in 35,000 different designs to stir the public's imagination for education, theater, health, safety, and travel. Due to their fragile nature only two thousand posters have survived. This contemporary design illustrates many of the WPA era posters, including those of our National Parks.
A book published in 1960 by American author John Updike. I've never read it before but the book review I came across stated that it was a classic story of dissatisfaction and restlessness.

Rheingold, The Day Beer

Sender: Mandy
A vintage USA beer ad postcard bought by Mandy in China (China ID) but posted in the States.

Mandy is an American home visiting her family in the States but she actually works and lives in Nanjing, China. Mandy has made her own envelope for the card, out of a 2006 Chinese calendar and inserted a Kellogs box cut-out of an Olympian, Rebecca Soni (swimmer). Now I wonder why our cereal boxes do not carry endorsements/photos of our own sportspersons! :)

What size?

Sender: Cardsgoround
Text on card: I do not have size twelve feet

Well, neither do I, dear!!  :D

Cardsgoround sent this excellent ad-card for the Weird RR. At the back it's printed: You don't have to be a man to be a Firefighter. Thousands of women enjoy rich and varied careers in the Fire and Rescue Service. All you have to be is fit, healthy and looking for a challenge. Women make great firefighters.

Come to think of it, I've never seen women firefighters in my own locality. Or even featured in our local news. Maybe there aren't any. You have to be brave to be one, I'm sure. So, kudos to all women firefighters in the whole wide world. You are all awesome!!

The Best Cafe

Sender: Nordbaer
This is an ad card for a cafe in Germany. Showing the sweetest sun ever, says Nordbaer! Hmm..what will happen if the sun is really sweet? Will those with sweet tooth invent rockets to go and bite the sun?? :D

Text on card: "Dear...I'm enjoying the best cafe of the world. It's so delicious. Yours,...."

Monkey & His Groceries

Sender: CardsGoRound

Text on card: Don't just watch TV, interact with it. Monkey is shown celebrating the arrival of his grocery delivery. Thanks to ITV Active he was able to shop for it all online! He can interact with some of his favourite TV programmes, surf millions of site, email friends, order a pizza or do a big food shop without the queues. Wise monkey.

ROTFLOL! I laughed till my tears came out after reading this funny card received in the Weird RR. Wise monkey indeed! I'm a couch potato and if I have that ITV Active facility here, would I be a worse couch potato or would that render me wise as per such monkey? Hahahaha! Thanks to CardsGoRound for this rib-tickling card! :D

Art Gallery Advert

Sender: Lin

Lin wrote that she is an artist and the card is of her oil painting exhibition with some other artists. I wonder which Lin she is.

Isn't it super cool to be an artist, able to express yourself through work and have your works exhibited to the public? I wish I am one. But the only things I can draw well are stick figures!

Being a Barista

Sender: rothko
I learnt something new from rothko about the World Barista Championship where participating baristas compete in making espresso, a cappucino, and a special drink of their own creation. rothko went to the recent US Barista Championship at the Specialty Coffee Association of America Expo. The winner of the US championship will thereafter compete in the World Barista Championship, held this year in Bogota, Colombia (June 2-5, 2011).

The card text states "The Colombian Coffee Federation and the Specialty Coffee Association of Colombia invites you to Bogota for the 11th Annual World Barista Championship, taking place for the first time in a major coffee producing country. We are privileged to show the world the magic of the coffees of Colombia and the wonderful people of our country."
