In the north western corner of Slovenia, close to Austria and Italy, are the limestone mountains known as the Julian Alps. The Soca River is regarded by many to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. It flows through narrow gorges and over broad gravel beds. The river’s characteristic turquoise hue and the wild beauty of its rapids and ravines make it a wonderful place to explore.

Niagara Falls - Chutes Niagara

Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A. (left) and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada (right) are connected by the Rainbow Bridge. Built in 1941 it replaced the Honeymoon Bridge which had been destroyed by a huge ice jam.

I'm so happy to get an aerial view of Niagara Falls that shows both the USA portion and Canada portion of the falls!

Iguassu Falls, Brazil

Iguassu Falls is located on the border of Brazil and Argentina. I read that some people say go to the Brazilian side for viewing the falls, and the Argentina side for experiencing the falls!

Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls is the best known natural waterfall in Arkansas. This 95 foot gusher spills into Cedar Creek. It is located in Petit Jean State Park Southwest of Morrilton.

I thought Arkansas was an icy cold place, so I am proved wrong. This card shows a sunny view! I read that Petit Jean Mountain is known for the legend of Petit Jean, the story of a French girl who disguised herself as a boy and secretly accompanied her sweetheart, an early explorer, to the New World and to the mountain (romantic story but a sad ending to her though). Petit Jean State Park is atop this mountain.

Lover's Leap, Rock City

Indian Legend of Lover's Leap

Sautee was a brave from a tribe that was feuding with the Cherokee Indians. Nacoochee, the Evening Star, was the beautiful daughter of the Chief of the Cherokees. The two met and found a beautiful and strong love. When Nacoochee's father discovered this love, he condemned Sautee to death by being thrown from the precipice of Lookout Mountain. Nacoochee was forced to witness his death and was so distressed, she leapt from the cliff to her death. From that day forward this cliff became known as Lover's Leap.

The 100 plus foot falls there must be one of the most striking natural attractions. But I feel sad after knowing the tragic folklore associated with them....

The park is named for the rainbows that often rise from the glittering cascades that fall down the rocky steps from Whitesand Lake to the Whitesand River which also lie within the park's boundaries.

Jones Falls

       The cataract is visible from Highway 6, 4.8 km west of Owen Sound near Springmount. A trail leads to the 39 foot falls from the nearby Grey-Bruce Tourism Information Centre. 

     Ontario's Grey-Bruce Region remains one of the foremost areas for the appreciation of traditional rural landscapes and villages. This photo collection reveals the beauties of its unspoiled natural attractions and the allure of its pastoral countryside.

I wish that I too have postcards of beautiful waterfalls in my country to send to other postcrossers but alas, so far I have not even come across any!

Actually, this is such an itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie polar bear stamp!

Horseshoe Falls

Niagara Falls: A view of the Horseshoe Falls at night. The Falls are illuminated nightly. Truly a spectacular sight.

The Niagara Falls consist of two sections which are separated by Goat Island: the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side and the American Falls on the American side. The picture on iheartmail89's card shows the Horseshoe Falls. The horseshoe shape name was inspired by the curving horseshoe shape crest.

The Horseshoe Falls have a drop of about 173 feet (53 m). It is claimed that the best views of the Horseshoe Falls are found on the Canadian side of the border, along the Niagara Parkway south of the Rainbow bridge, and at Table Rock. At night, they are all lit up in coloured lights, just like as shown on the card. Spectacular indeed!

Niagara Falls: A fast exposure details the complex movements of water and mist.

HeatherC went for a summer vacation to Niagara Falls, a place that I have never been to.

I read that the Niagara Falls are the most powerful waterfalls in North America and the second largest falls on the globe next to Victoria Falls in southern Africa. It is situated on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario and forms the international border between the the Canadian province of Ontario and the American state of New York. The word "Niagara" is derived from the Iroquois Indian word "Onguiaahra" meaning "the strait".

In the evenings, intense spotlights bathe the falls with different shades of color, as you can see from HeatherC's postcard. I can just imagine the tremendous sound it makes as the water goes over and lands at the bottom!

Purakaunui Falls, Catlins, South Otago, New Zealand. It is a cascading multi-tiered waterfall on the Purakaunui River. Lovely!

Scenic Georgia

Text on card: "Greetings from Scenic Georgia. View the breathtaking scenic beauty from the top of Amicalola Falls. Reached by GA Highways 183 and 52, about 16 miles northwest of Dawsonville. One of Georgia's "Seven Natural Wonders". The falls drops a total of 729 feet through a series of cascades. The park offers a 57-room lodge, restaurant and concession stand, camping and picnicking areas and is near the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail."

I was curious about the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and found out that it is a marked hiking trail approx. 3,510 km long of which the majority of the trail is wilderness. The trail is home to thousands of species of plants and animals, including 2,000 distinct rare, threatened, endangered, and sensitive plant and animal species. Wow. Double wow.

Before this, Georgia to me, is where Margaret Mitchell's novel, Gone With the Wind was written! And that song by Ray Charles!
