Summer Fruit

Sender: Daglelie
Summer Fruits

I recognise and have tasted/eaten them all except the bottom rightmost fruit (greengage). I do not like those summer melons. The only kind of melons I love are watermelons (tropical?)! Which summer fruits pictured here are your favourites?

Blueberry Capital

Sender: Purpleferret
Oxford, Nova Scotia, Canada

Text on card: The first European to build his log cabin at the end of the River Phillip was Richard Thompson and his family in 1792. The power from the river soon provided the energy for saw mills, grist mills, textile mills and foundries that became the mainstay of the thriving town of Oxford. As these industries started to decline, the low bush blueberry fields of Cumberland County slowly gained importance. No matter what season you visit, you will be captivated by the beauty of these delicate Cumberland jewels. Whether you find a spring field of bell-shaped blossoms, a late summer's ripened harvest, or fall's scarlet hues, you will come to see why Oxford has become known as the Blueberry Capital of Canada.

Tropical Holiday

Sender: Sayuri2023
"Tropical Holiday" by John Warden

Get the tropical holiday feeling with the two pineapples! Pineapples like lots of sun and grow well in tropical regions around the world, including my home country. Ha! I just realised that I am like a pineapple as I like lots of sun & thrive well in tropical weather! :-D

'A' is for 'Apple'

Sender: StarrySky

StarrySky sent 'A' is for 'Apple' for the Alphabet RR. This is a lovely photo, I like the way the apple is presented.

Apples are also present in many histories, legends, cultures, even religious traditions. Some that come to my mind are:-

The tale of William Tell
Snow White
Johnny Appleseed
Isaac Newton
Some myths in Greek and Roman mythology
Adam's Apple origin
The Big Apple
Halloween and Apple Bobbing

The popular phrase "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!" asks us to include apples in our diet for good health. Not a problem...for who can resist the temptation of biting into a crunchy apple fruit, be it red, green or yellow? :-)

'C' is for 'Cocoa'!

Sender: starrysky

'C' is for 'Cocoa' beans, ready to be turned into 'Chocolate'!

Here are some chocolate quotes for chocolate lovers:-

*There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE!
*Chocolate: Here today .... Gone today!
*Forget love-- I'd rather fall in chocolate!!!
*It's not that chocolates are a substitute for love. Love is a substitute for chocolate. Chocolate is, let's face it, far more reliable than a man.
*I never met a chocolate I didn't like.
*I don't understand why so many "so called" chocolate lovers complain about the calories in chocolate, when all true chocoholics know that it is a vegetable. It comes from the cocoa bean, beans are veggies, 'nuff said!
*Nuts just take up space where chocolate ought to be.
*If life is like a box of chocolates, then its time for me to buy another box, I seemed to have already devoured all the good ones!
*Exercise is a dirty word... Every time I hear it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate.
*Caramels are only a fad. Chocolate is a permanent thing...

Rowan berries on a frosty day
Sender: dotdotPC

"There is much debate as to the toxicity of Rowan berries. These are 4-8 mm bright orange or red fruit that appear in dense clusters. Some sources say the berries are poisonous while others state the opposite. The berries contain parasorbic acid in their raw form. In this manner, they are indeed poisonous. On cooking however, the parasorbic acid is converted into harmless sorbic acid, which is quite digestible. Rowan berries are indeed used to make a jelly that goes well with wild game and as jams and preserves. If you still feel doubt about using Rowan berries then for your own peace of mind, leave them out."
