Moulin Rouge
Sender: Goyesca
F is for FRIVOLITY!
Moulin Rouge, Paris.
I only passed by this area during my stay in Paris. Basically me & my pals just gawked at the sights through the window of our slowly driven cab.
It was too cold and rainy for us to venture out & walk along those streets, despite the cabbie's vehement pleas for us to do so & experience...err..something different & exciting behind the doors of the buildings. Alas, by that time we had already walked miles and miles at a religious historical attraction uphill and the cold had really really killed our excitement for any kind of nightlife. All we wanted to do by then was to return to our apartment for dinner & then hit the beds! The cabbie could not believe us! Haha!

Urinal
Sender: Nekorin
U is for 'Urinal'
Techiman, Ghana, 2006
This brilliant postcard made me laugh out loud! Yes, "Urinal" means toilet but we don't use that term for the general public in my country. Which term do you usually use to refer to the toilet?
The washroom, restroom, bathroom, lavatory, water closet, w.c.?
The loo, the porcelain goddess, the crapper, the throne, the gents/the ladies or the john…?
It pays to know the correct term when travelling and especially, the native language for it! :-)

Mind The Gap! Mind The Gap!
Sender: darkpunkangel ~ ~ (whoa! cool username that!)
How To Be British No. 19
Survival English, Lesson Thirteen
"Mind The Gap!"
I love this card as it triggered memories of my youth! I remember being uber stupid in the tube when I was in my teens, mimicking to my pals that "mind the gap" voice recording broadcasted on certain London Underground platforms. The other is the “stand clear of the doors please” recording.
Oof. I was so silly those days. I assure you, now that I am all grown up and a "powderful" lady somewhat, I am not like that anymore....(Hahahahahahahahaha!)

AIDS Memorial Quilt
Sender: Alienne
Text on card: The International Display of the Entire NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt October 9-11, 1992
Inspired by the folk art traditions of quilting and sewing bees, the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt is an international symbol of the fight against AIDS. This 13 acre display contains 20,064 panels, each bearing the name of someone killed by AIDS.
In 1987, the AIDS Memorial Quilt was started to memorialise Americans who died of AIDS. Portions of the quilt’s panels, hand sewn by family and friends of those lost to the disease, will be displayed throughout Washington, D.C., during the month of July. The AIDS quilt was created by an organization called The NAMES Project. More than 25 years after the quilt’s launch, it still receives new panels every day, each a small shrine to someone’s loved one taken by AIDS.
I'm awed by the size of the project and its efforts to bring the awareness of AIDS to the forefront. Such an inspiring way to document the lives of people taken away by AIDS....

'I' is for 'Italia'
Bella Italia: Pasticceria, Roma
Bella Italia: Pasticceria, Roma
A Pasticceria is an Italian pastry shop. You can go early in the morning for a nice pastry or biscotti (some serve coffee as well) or in the afternoon for a sweet. You will sometimes find good Italian ice cream, gelato, especially in a smaller town that might not have a gelateria.
