Apple Blossom in the Altes Land

Sender: Chiara64
Apple blossom in the Altes Land near Hamburg

Altes Land, a German region stretching along the Elbe river between Hamburg, Buxtehude and Stade, is particularly beautiful in spring, when the scent of apple, pear and cherry blossoms fill the air and the orchards are a mass of pastel hues.

Upper Garden

Sender: Fred

Text on card:-
Upper Garden: In his upper garden, George Washington created a formal pleasure garden, with beds of flowers and vegetables separated by brick-lined walks. The small octagonal garden house stands in the northwest corner of the upper garden.

I love, love, love beautifully tended gardens...Let me share a poem I have read which kind of sums up what a garden is..

"There is peace within a garden
A peace so deep and calm
That when the heart is troubled
It's like a soothing balm

There's life within a garden
A life that still goes on
Filling empty places
When older plants have gone

There's glory in the garden
At every time of year
Spring summer autumn winter
To fill the heart with cheer

So ever tend your garden
Its beauty to increase
So in it you'll find solace
And in it you'll find peace."

Yosemite National Park

Sender: Liz

Yosemite National Park
Mountain Dogwood along the Merced River
One of the two major waterways in the Park is the Merced River, which carries rainwater and snow melt from the high Sierras and drains the southern part of the Park. Arising high in the Sierra backcountry, it flows through the heart of the Yosemite Valley.

Sender: Maria

A lovely art card by Pekka Barman, one of Maria's favourite postcards. I like it too! It's like a council of wise owls!

Northern Ontario

Sender: LizzyS
Autumn colours of Northern Ontario, Canada

A scenic picture indeed. I wish our tree leaves can change colours in this manner. But they are greener than green mostly.

I would never tire of seeing autumn's effect on trees if I live in this kind of surroundings...

Quinault Rain Forest

Sender: Hootnoodle
'Q' is for the 'Quinault' Rain Forest

Text on card: The QUINAULT RAIN FOREST with its mild temperatures, summer fog, long growing season, and abundant rainfall help make this forest at Cannings Creek a most fertile varied garden of growing organisms. Some of the largest trees of their kind, festooned with mosses, lichen and ferns grow in the Quinault Valley. Parasitic and Saprophytic plants abound here.

A Tree House

Sender: Alienne
'T' is for 'Tree' house!

Why do you think children like playing in a tree house? I think that a tree-house gives them another venue to play, a separate place to put their own special things and serves as a retreat for them sometimes. Makes them feel special. Have you ever played in a tree house before?

This card comes with a quote which Alienne kindly translated for me:-
"Man needs hours in which he centres himself and lives inwardly". ~ Albert Schweitzer

Redwood Burls

Sender: Emily

Text on card: Redwood National and State Parks
Redwood burls, thought by most authorities to be masses of dormant buds, are a common sight on many redwood trees. The peculiar protuberance around the trunk of this tree is truly unique, measuring 6 by 8 feet.

It looks like the bottom of a melted candle!

Willows in Upper Bavaria

Sender: Gery
Willows in Upper Bavaria

A lovely winter scene. Sometimes when it gets unbearably warm here, I long to be in colder weather again. And I sort of miss the snow. But not too wintry like -18 degrees as what Gery informed she is facing right now! Too cooold!
