The Swallow's Nest

The Swallow's Nest is a decorative castle near Yalta on the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine. It was built between 1911 and 1912 in Gaspra, on top of 40-metre high Aurora Cliff, to a Neo-Gothic design by the Russian architect Leonid Sherwood. The castle overlooks the Cape of Ai-Todor of the Black Sea and is located near the remnants of the Roman castrum of Charax. Swallow's Nest is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Crimea, becoming the symbol of Crimea's southern coastline.

A Castle Old And Grey

I never see a castle

Trakai is an island on Lake Galve. It is a historic city with a 15th Century castle, a popular tourist attraction. A lovely viewcard, I love the warm colours of the castle and the rolling clouds above.

Kronborg Castle (also known as Hamlet Castle, as immortalised by Shakespeare)

It is one of northern Europe's most important Renaissance castles. Known all over the world from Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is also the most famous castle in Denmark. 

If I ever get the chance to visit this beautiful castle, I want to stand somewhere in its grounds taking a video clip of me quoting: "To be, or not to be: that is the question"!!

I can never get tired of the postcards showing this castle. It is so beautiful, set against a backdrop of  picturesque mountain scenery. I really wish to see it with my own eyes. Then I can feel like a fairytale princess when I walk in the castle grounds! :-D

Sakura writes that the Himeji Castle is a National Treasure. It was placed on UNESCO WHS list in 1993. It's also known as the White Egret Castle or Hakuro-jō. Himeji Castle dates to 1333.

Hever Castle, located in lovely countryside south-east of London, is perhaps one of the most enchanting moated castles in Britain. Anne Boleyn (second wife of Henry VIII, later beheaded) was born here in 1509, but she spent much of her childhood at court in France where her father, Sir Thomas Bollen, was an Ambassador. Henry VIII later gave the castle to his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, who owned it for the next 17 years.
