Christmas in 1912

Sender; Kluifje
'C' is for 'Christmas'!

A lady posing by a Christmas, 1912. Just imagine how long she had to keep that pose for the camera at that time. I would be wriggling in total impatience! Well, I guess ladies of those days were very much more ladylike and no wrigglings tolerated!

A dream is just a dream till it comes true.
Love was just a word till I heard it from you...."

James Dean with Bongo Drums

Sender: Dede
James Dean

Text on card:-
Although he seemed relaxed, James Dean was a highly self-conscious star who fussed over the perfect picture. In customary leather jacket he poses awkwardly with bongo drums, a cigarette jammed in his mouth

In the early 1950's, James Dean was heralded as the new heartthrob of women and rebellious idol of men.
Quote: "How can you measure acting in inches?!?" (when told he was too short to be an actor). James Dean's actual height was 5'8".

Perfect Partnership

Sender: Patrick & Jutta

I think the card states "It's the little niceties and mutual helpfulness which make a perfect partnership".

Well....the man can actually take over the broom and sweep the ground, just sayin'! :-D

The stamp for this card is missing, presumably lost in transit, leaving just the shadow of its shape, accentuated by the postal mark...

The Flapper

Sender: Anna
I was not informed about the lady on the card. Is she a Russian movie actress? In any event, she has movie star looks and is dressed like "Flappers" in the 1920's.

From Wikipedia: "Flappers were a "new breed" of young Western women in the 1920s who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behaviour. Flappers were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking, treating sex in a casual manner, smoking, driving automobiles and otherwise flouting social and sexual norms. Flappers had their origins in the liberal period of the Roaring Twenties, the social, political turbulence and increased transatlantic cultural exchange that followed the end of World War I, as well as the export of American jazz culture to Europe."
