Giulietta Masina as a clown for Vogue's Fellini special, December 1972.
I found out that Giulietta Masina (1921-1994) was an Italian actress who acted in Federico Fellini's movie, "La Strada", amongst others. Fellini was her husband. "La Strada" won a Best Foreign Film Oscar for the haunting exploration of loyalty, shattered faith and redemption. The tale of a simple minded girl’s devotion to her brutish master, a circus strong man. Giulietta's heartbreaking performance, gives La Strada its emotional power. I confess, that I have never seen nor heard of both actress and movie and would really like the opportunity to see both.
When I got this card, it brought back memories of "Red Nose Day", a fundraising event organised by Comic Relief, a charity founded in the United Kingdom.
The most prominent symbol of Comic Relief is a plastic/foam "red nose", which is given in various supermarkets and charity shops such as Oxfam in exchange for a donation to the charity and to make others laugh. People are encouraged to wear the noses on RND to help raise awareness of the charity. I remember going around with my buddies wearing our red plastic noses, doing our bit for Comic Relief and feeling on top of the world as only youngsters can at that age!
Well, they did say, "make funny for money!"
