Funny Face!

Sender: Lednimedved

Lednimedved sent this card for the Weird RR. Sometime last year I received a card with a funny faced lady. So this card and that one make a pair, I'm so pleased! Don't you think he looks like a contestant for the Funny Face Contest?

Peter Muller-Munk (1904-1967), metalworker, best known for his 1935 design of a chrome-plated brass pitcher called the "Normandie" for its resemblance to the silhouette of the French ocean liner's prow.

Frederick Hurten Rhead (

1880-1942), potter and ceramic designer, active in two different fields: studio pottery and industrial ceramics, he created the popular 'Fiesta' line of domestic dinnerware.

Morgenstund macht Wecker wund

Sender: Alienne

Quote on card (German): "Morgenstund macht Wecker wund". Alienne writes that this means, "The early bird destroys the alarm clock". It is a wordplay on the old saying, "Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund" ie. "The early bird catches the worm". I used to have a friend in my student days who was infamous for destroying three radio alarm clocks by throwing them way across the room from the bedside table. What a waste!

Are you an alarm clock whacker? Try this tip: Keep the alarm clock at a distance (over a shelf or something) to make you get up from your bed, walk to the place and shut off the alarm. Then give yourself a pat on the back for getting up as soon as your alarm clock goes offBut if you manage to whack it still...what else?

It is then time for you to buy a new alarm clock, that's what!! :D

Sand Dunes, Death Valley

Sender: Nordbaer

Text on card: Sand Dunes, Sunrise, Death Valley National Park, c. 1948, Ansel Adams.

Death Valley National Park is in the state of California, U.S.A. It is the lowest point in North America and one of the hottest places in the world, containing a diverse desert environment of salt-flats, sand dunes, badlands, valleys, canyons, and mountains.

Ansel Adams (Feb. 20 1902 — Apr. 22, 1984) was a photographer and environmentalist best known for his black & white photographs capturing America's wild beauty.

"I hope that my work will encourage self expression in others and stimulate the search for beauty and creative excitement in the great world around us." ~ Ansel Adams

Can you see my teeth?

Sender: Volvomom

Text on card: Dentures: George Washington was plagued by dental problems and ill-fitting dentures throughout his life. This pair of dentures is made of animal and human teeth as well as vegetable ivory - all fitted into a hinged lead base. They are on view in the Donald and Nancy de Laski Gallery of the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Centre.

This card is weird but fascinating all the same! Squeal! I can't imagine having someone else's teeth in my mouth or an animal's teeth or whatever...And the card made me have a sudden urge to brush and floss and clean my teeth..

Your teeth are important - they help you to chew,
They help you to smile and say, "How do you do?"
Be sure to take care of them morning and night
By brushing and flossing, you'll keep your teeth bright!

Swans in Castle Garden

Sender: Alienne

Text on card: Der Schwanenteich im Schlossgarten - 1901
I think it means swan pond in the castle's garden. And the Castle is in Oldenburg.

Alienne sent this extra card, which was a happy surprise :)

Moscow in Winter

Sender: SixthSense

Officially called "The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin by the Moat", Saint Basil's Cathedral's design is shaped as a flame of a bonfire rising into the sky. I have been here before, many many years ago. And it was my first time experiencing winter and snow!

Such lovely art!

Red Square at Night, Moscow

Sender: Marina

Marina likes the Red Square at night particularly with the snowy streets and bright red stars of the Kremlin. I like it too but in real life, I would be freezing in the snowy streets. Have shivered and froze here...many many years ago...!
