Le Sommeil - Sleep

Sender: Kluifje
"Sleep" by Salvador Dali, 1937.

An image of a huge disembodied head with eyes closed in sleep, hanging suspended by flimsy crutches in an almost empty landscape. The card calls this painting "The Dream" in error. It is actually "Sleep".  It gives me an eerie feeling. But I kind of get why Dali paints sleep in this way. Just imagine if the crutches break, won't the eyes open due to the shock and thus jolt awake the face-body-thing? Like how we sometimes experience being jolted awake from our sleep by the sensation of free falling....

Give me two hours a day of activity, and I'll take the other twenty-two in dreams.”
~ Salvador Dali
