An illustration of "La Barbe Bleue", a French folktale written by Charles Perrault. The tale tells the story of a wealthy but violent aristocrat who has the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of one wife to avoid the fate of her predecessors.
I read this tale when I was in primary school. It horrified me because it was definitely not one of those rosy tales with beautiful princesses and handsome princes!
