Cathedral of Learning

Sender: Meena7

The University of Pittsburgh's 42-storey Cathedral of Learning, long known as the "world's tallest schoolhouse", reaches a height of 535 feet. Constructed between 1926 and 1938, its Truncated Gothic style, whose vertical lines never meet, signifies that education never ends. The tower's Gothic Commons Room is ringed by the world-famous Nationality Rooms.

Meena7 asked me to check out the underlined words on the web..I found out that the Nationality Rooms are 26 functional classrooms decorated in the styles of classrooms of various nationalities and cultures as they would have appeared prior to the University's founding in 1787. They include the Czechoslovak Room, the Italian Room, the German Classroom, the Hungarian Room, the Polish Room, the Irish Classroom, the Lithuanian Room, the Romanian Room, the Swedish Room, the Chinese Room, the Greek Room, the Scottish Classroom, the Yugoslav Classroom, the English Classroom, the French Classroom, the Norwegian Classroom, the Russian Classroom and the Syria-Lebanon Room!!! Wow!!!

Inukshuk at English Bay, on a blustery spring day, with sailboats scurrying along the shoreline. The Inuit inspired Inukshuk is the symbol for the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010. The Inukshuk was used as a landmark and navigational aid oon the barren northern landscape, its meaning translates to "stone man that points the way".

Gdańsk

Sender: Romanek
Dlugi Targ Street and the Main Town Hall

Dlugi Targ (Long Market street) in Gdańsk, Poland is the main tourist attraction in the city. The wealthiest Gdańsk citizens used to live there in houses with narrow facades topped with gables or attics, richly decorated with coats of arms, allegoric figures and silhouettes of ancient heroes.
It is a very picturesque street, many thanks to Romanek for this card!

Hever Castle

Sender: Nordbaer
Hever Castle in Kent

Hever Castle, located in lovely countryside south-east of London, is perhaps one of the most enchanting moated castles in Britain. Anne Boleyn (second wife of Henry VIII, later beheaded) was born here in 1509, but she spent much of her childhood at court in France where her father, Sir Thomas Bollen, was an Ambassador. Henry VIII later gave the castle to his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, who owned it for the next 17 years.

Rocky Mountain High ~ sung by John Denver

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long

But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high

Yosemite National Park

Sender: Vejoyce
Text on card: Taft Point, Yosemite National Park, California
Taft Point can be reached by walking 1.1 easy miles from Glacier Point Road, from here one can look down over 3,000 feet into Yosemite Valley.

Yosemite National Park is one of the first wilderness parks in the United States with granite cliffs, deep valleys, waterfalls, clear streams, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, etc. Just thinking about standing there at Taft Point can do funny things to my tummy. I'm sure the views from that point are spectacular and worth the climb but I wonder if I can really enjoy them if my feelings are mingled with a high dosage of fear (of heights!). I'm sure I won't be able to hold on to a camera, let alone take pictures! I'd be crawling slowly feeling my way.. :D

Vejoyce sent this card for the 'Y' group in the Alphabet RR. Amazing high peaks and natural landscape!

'Y' is for 'Yacht Race'!

Sender: Wildfire

Text on card: Yacht racing under Nelson's Port Hills. With sheltered waters, golden beaches and a predictable afternoon seabreeze, Nelson is a great place for water activities of all kinds. The climate is mild whatever the season and with consistently high sunshine hours, most activities are on offer year-round

Wildfire sent this card for the 'Y' group in the Alphabet RR. How lovely to be sitting at the verandah of one of the waterfront villas, watching the ships and yachts passing by and enjoying the sunrise/sunset!
