The Residence of Bukovynian Metropolitans, Chernivtsi

In the Themed Messages RR, veselka_veselka wrote about her love for mountain climbing. I have never tried mountain climbing, I think it is a fine outdoor sport as it can test one's physical fitness, mental fitness and the spirit to survive. But it is not a sport for the faint-hearted! I really admire veselka_veselka for her cool, awesome and exciting hobby!

The card she sent is of the Residence of Bukovynian Metropolitans. The property is an ensemble of buildings situated on Dominic hill, Chernivtsi, built to the design of a famous Czech architect, Josef Hlavka. There is also an arboretum encircled within a 3-metre (10 feet) high stone wall, covering an area of 5 hectaresRare species of trees are mingled with the native ones: maples, oaks, lime-trees and hornbeams. The park entrance completes the ensemble with its buildings and the garden. In the middle there is a monument to J. Hlavka built in 1937 by sculptor A. Severyn. A fir-tree, the same age as the park itself, grows near the monument. The monument is pictured in the card.
