Punakaiki, West Coast

Sender: Wildfire

Text on card: Punakaiki, West Coast: The rock formations at Punakaiki have created a series of caverns and underground passages that capture the swells as they roll in from the Tasman Sea.

Wildfire writes that the rock formation is said to look like lots of different animals.

Punakaiki is also famous for "the Pancake Rocks" (limestone formations that began forming 30 million years ago, when lime-rich fragments of dead marine creatures were deposited on the seabed, then overlaid by weaker layers of soft mud and clay) and "blowholes" (where the sea bursts though a number of vertical holes during high tide). Wildfire lives within easy reach of this lovely place. I wish I do too so that I can explore its main attractions to my heart's content.
