American Swedish Institute

Sender: Lednimedved

Text on card: The American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55407. Founded in 1929, the Institute sponsors a cultural exchange between America and Sweden and presents a programme of lectures, concerts, exhibits and education, all aimed at promoting the Swedish cultural heritage.

In 1908, the Turnblads, a Swedish immigrant family, completed the construction of their castle-like mansion on Minneapolis’ Park Avenue. Just 21 years later, they gave it all away to the community, founding the museum and cultural center that would become the American Swedish Institute. It serves as a gathering place for people to share stories and experiences around universal themes of tradition, migration, craft and the arts, all informed by enduring ties to Sweden.
I love the Native American stamps!
