Dyer's Quarters

Sender: BelleSouth
'H' is for 'Horoshige'

Hiroshige. "Dyer's Quarters, Kanda". Edo Period, Ansei Era, 1857. Woodblock colour print, 36 x 23.5 cm.

Utagawa Hiroshige (Ando) (1797-1858) is a Japanese artist. This picture shows strips of cloth hanging out to dry at a shop where it has been dyed, can you almost feel the breeze stirring the cloth? The background is of the famous volcano, Mount Fuji and there is a bird flying in the sky. The red colour is maybe sunrise or sunset. I feel at peace looking at this scene..
