The rustic and memorable Ahwahnee Hotel designed by architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood, was completed in 1927. Its rock face blends in with the valley's granite walls and lights of evening cast a warm glow. The Ahwahnee Hotel was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
